INTRODUCTION:
====================================================

I spoke with Gregg Rock, CEO of BrainStorm, about BrainStorm San Francisco, to be held September 15-17 at the Hyatt Regency Burlingame.

According to Gregg, the typical executive today has a difficult time finding the time and budget to attend sessions held far away, yet the information they receive is critical to achieve an advantage in the marketplace today. Additional key personnel are facing pressure to keep their departments current, yet it is difficult to take the time to discover the new tools and procedures that they need.

Gregg told me that in recognition of this need, he has tailored BrainStorm San Francisco to provide the answers that business are seeking in a structured, two or three-day conference experience that will cover the major issues businesses face today.

BrainStorm San Francisco combines four events:

  • Business Integration & Web Services Conference
  • Nearshore & Offshore Outsourcing Conference
  • Business Process Outsourcing Seminar
  • Enterprise Content Management Seminar

BrainStorm San Francisco brings together a great lineup - Program Highlights include Track Chair/Keynotes from leading analyst organizations including:

  • Gartner
  • Doculabs
  • Meta Group
  • Aberdeen Group
  • Yankee Group
  • Hurwitz Group

As well as case studies from world-class organizations including:

  • Alcan Aluminum
  • Applied Materials
  • Allstate Insurance
  • SBC
  • Bank Of America
  • Telus Communications
  • iJet Travel Risk Management
  • UC Berkeley
  • Genentech
  • GE
  • DFS Group
The Business Integration and Web Services Conference, September 15-17, will feature sessions on the important issues facing Business and IT professionals, including:
  • Web Services
  • Business Process Management
  • EAI Strategies
  • Data Integration
  • Legacy Integration & Transformation
  • Supply Chain Integration
  • Ongoing Value of EDI
  • The Role of XML
  • Overcoming Organizational Roadblocks
  • Security & Privacy
  • Managing Business Projects
  • Integrating CRM
  • and End-User Case Studies

The Nearshore and Offshore Outsourcing Conference runs September 15-16. According to Gartner, by 2004 more than 80% of US companies will have seriously explored global sourcing, and 40% will have either completed a pilot project or be actively involved in offshore outsourcing. This is where everyone is going, and you need to consider this option; but you will need a roadmap.

This conference will:

  • Assist executives in formulating a comprehensive Nearshore and Offshore Outsourcing strategy
  • Discuss how to apply Nearshore and Offshore Outsourcing solutions in order to integrate your business partners, the enterprise, suppliers, applications and mobile devices
  • Create a solutions-oriented atmosphere allowing conference attendees to meet face-to-face with featured presenters and peers to formulate successful relationships and partnerships
  • Supply guidelines for selecting the best services/solution provider to meet your needs

In addition, there will be two seminars available at BrainStorm San Francisco:

The Business Process Outsourcing Seminar will be held on September 16 and will serve business and IT executives who are seeking an unbiased source of education, insight and expertise to ensure the success of their outsourcing initiatives. The seminar will feature a strategic management perspective presented by the top industry analysts and practitioners from organizations all over the world.

Last but not least, the Enterprise Content Management Seminar will be held on September 17. There are two kinds of data within every enterprise: structured and non-structured. The structured data is well known, but the unstructured data includes all the collected PDFs, PowerPoint presentations, spreadsheets, corporate archives and audio/video files.

The amount of this unstructured content is growing exponentially, and has spawned the creation of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions to help collect, store and share these assets. One main driver to manage this content is the new regulations created by Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPPA.

There isn't enough space in this preview to list all the stellar presentations that will be featured at BrainStorm San Francisco. For complete agendas, session descriptions and additional details, please visit www.brainstorm-group.com or call 508-393-3266.

Gregg emphasized that BrainStorm San Francisco provides a forum where attendees, industry experts and vendors work together to shape winning solutions and strategies. The extended educational sessions provided by the two conferences and seminars detail the latest advancements, the best-of-breed solutions, and all the current trends in information technology. The keynotes, case studies, solution panels and one-on-one sessions cover the key issues businesses need to succeed.

FROM THE CEO: BPMInstitute.org
The Peer to Peer Exchange for Business Management
Professionals
=================================================

The BrainStorm Group has developed a loyal following by providing the high tech industry with good, reliable, current, and unbiased information about technical issues since 1997. Interest in Business Process Management (BPM) has been growing rapidly in the past two years and has been a major topic at BrainStorm's Business Integration conferences.

Gregg Rock recognized the need for a clearing house or forum for information on what is happening in the BPM space. Acting on this need, and the many requests from BPM practitioners and professionals, BrainStorm has developed and will host a new site dedicated to peer to peer exchange in the BPM space.

The BPM Institute (BPMInstitute.org) was officially launched June 19, 2003 and I'd like to take the opportunity to re-cap the progress that we've made to date and layout a framework of our initial goals - with "initial" being the operative word.

Member Highlights:

  • Over 800 BPM Professionals have joined since we first launched, putting us well on our way of reaching our first 1000 members.
  • We are a geographically diverse group - with members from over 30 countries and virtually every state in the U.S.
  • Nearly 70% of our members are BPM Practitioners and Consultants.
  • Over 90% of our members are involved in the evaluation, recommendation, purchase and implementation of BPM services and solutions.

Member Priorities and Interests:
When I join a new organization I often wonder "is anyone is listening?" In the case of BPMInstitute, let me assure you "we're listening" - in fact I recently had the opportunity to review your comments when you joined. I know, I know - get a life. But seriously, as I began analyzing the overall interests of our members and several topical areas have emerged as top priorities.

For each of these areas of interest - I've suggested a course of action to assist members in gaining as much value as possible:

Interest: Best Practices, Case Studies and Lessons Learned\

  • Listen to Archives - these are presentations from live conferences featuring leading analysts, experts and case studies
  • Submit your company/group for our BPM Awards program - BPMInstitute.org will be recognizing individuals/organizations at BrainStorm New York in November. Please submit your best practices, detailed case studies or lessons learned to awards@bpminstitute.org (up to 400 words in a Word document).

Interest: Networking with Peers and Knowledge Sharing

  • Attend our first Roundtable, "The Future of BPM", on July 29th
  • Initiate a new topic in the Discussion Forum

Interest: Answers to Specific Questions

  • We've now created an Ask The Experts section to our Discussion Forum - in addition to getting feedback from our general members we will utilize our extensive network to provide you with a detailed response to your question.

Complimentary membership is being offered during an introductory period - Join Today!

Gregg Rock,

FROM THE CO-CHAIRMAN: Nearshore & Offshore Outsourcing Conference
September 15-16 in San Francisco
FEATURING: Ian Hayes, Conference Co-Chairman
by Jon Huntress
=================================================

The Nearshore and Offshore Outsourcing Conference begins September 15 at the Hyatt Regency Burlingame. Outsourcing continues to be one of the most attractive ways companies can reduce costs and increase productivity. Outsourcing initiatives continue to grow every year. There are great advantages to outsourcing and companies are moving in that direction. According to Gartner, by 2004 more than 80% of US companies will have seriously explored global sourcing, and 40% will have either completed a pilot project or be actively involved in offshore outsourcing

Ian Hayes is President of Clarity Consulting and the Co-Chairman for the Nearshore and Offshore Conference. He advises Fortune 1000 companies and their solution providers and consults on outsourcing, business/IT alignment, efficiency enhancement, process redesign, wireless strategies, productivity and service level metrics. Ian is also a columnist and regular writer for Software Magazine. Ian will present a powerful mix of industry analysts, experts, and solution providers to present an accurate view of outsourcing opportunities and answer questions on how to take advantage of this market and avoid the pitfalls.

The opening keynote will be given by Rita Terdiman, Research Director of IT Management for Gartner. She will present the Gartner view on "Going Offshore to Globally Source IT Services." Rita's presentation will look at the current state of the offshore sourcing market and recent trends, discuss ways to evaluate vendors and countries and consider best practices in offshore engagements.

Ian will follow with "Launching a Successful Outsourcing Engagement." In this presentation, he will discuss what it takes to implement a successful outsourcing project. Choosing the right services and applications to outsource and planning the goals and objectives in the beginning make all the difference. This presentation offers insights into the critical planning and preparation activities that lead to a successful project.

A case study will follow featuring Hank Zupnick, Chief Information Officer for GE Real Estate. Hank's presentation. "GE on Overseas Outsourcing," will discuss GE's experiences in outsourcing its IT work to an offshore provider. A panel on Offshore Solutions will follow, moderated by Rita Terdiman, to discuss the variety of offshore and nearshore solutions available to companies today.

After lunch and desert and coffee on the Solutions Showcase, an afternoon keynote will be given by Andrew Efstathiou, Program Manager- Technology Management Strategies for the Yankee Group. His subject will be "Selecting Applications for Offshore Outsourcing." Most companies have such diverse and large applications portfolios that they don't know where to start. Andrew will give attendees a framework for analyzing their portfolios and selecting appropriate candidates for offshore outsourcing.

Another case study will follow, given by Ron Glickman, Senior Vice President and CIO of The DFS Group, a subsidiary of LVMH Moet Hennessy-Louis Vuitton. The case study will cover "Transformational Outsourcing and Change Management." Ron will discuss how one retailer, DFS, worked with an outsourcer as a business partner to transform critical processes within the company.

A panel discussion on Best Practices in offshore and nearshore delivery moderated by Efstathiou will end the day's sessions with a reception at the Solutions Showcase following.

To begin Day Two, Marty McCaffrey, Executive Director of Software Outsourcing Research will give the opening keynote. Marty has been researching and analyzing the offshore outsourcing market since its earliest days and offers a keen and unique insight. His subject will be "Key Developments and Challenges in Offshore Outsourcing."

Paul Schmidt, Founder and CEO for the Offshore Development Group will give a talk on "The Emerging Global Market," to consider how new regions around the globe present great potential for offshore service delivery. Following a coffee break for networking, Stuart Morstead, co-author of "Offshore Ready: Strategies to Pan and Profit from Offshore IT-enabled Services," will give a presentation on, "Understanding the Total Cost of Offshore Initiatives." A panel discussion on Global Sourcing Strategies will follow, moderated by Paul Schmidt.

After the Executive Luncheon and desert and coffee in the Solutions Showcase, the afternoon sessions will begin with a case study on "Overcoming Organizational Challenges to Offshore Initiatives." A session on Best Practices for Negotiating Service Level Agreements will follow.

The closing presentation will be given by Ian Hayes. His subject is "Using Tools to Manage Sourcing Arrangements." With IT organizations seeking greater control and visibility over their sourcing arrangements, Ian will discuss areas amenable to automation, from contract management to financial management, and the tools available to help those efforts. After this session, the conference will adjourn to the Solutions Showcase for the Evening Reception.

Remember that at BrainStorm San Francisco you can schedule one-on-one meetings with the conference presenters. Make plans to join us in San Francisco on September 15 to learn about all the advantages of outsourcing.
